TXDOT will be looking carefully at the fatal crash from Sunday, March 3, along the curve on RM620 between RM2222 and Steiner Ranch Blvd. They indicated that preliminary data from DPS confirms that it "was a cross over crash in an area covered by the future barriers. Barriers must be specially constructed to allow for cross road drainage and should be installed this summer. Resurfacing will occur during phase two of the bypass project whose scheduled completion is still summer of 2020." They indicated that all fatal crashes get reviewed carefully and a detailed analysis will be performed.
SRNA had reached out to TXDOT first thing Monday to inquire if additional measures could be taken on that stretch of the road. TXDOT will do a thorough investigation to look for those opportunities. Presently the plan is to get the barriers in place along the curves on RM620 to help prevent cross over (crossing yellow line / head on) collisions (as discussed last year at SRNA meetings: see: steinerranchna.org/sept-2018-txdot-meeting/ . Most sections of RM620 got new pavement as part of resurfacing back summer 2018, however the section that the crash occurred did not yet receive the new texture, pending new construction of the bypass.
We all feel terrible regarding the loss of life on Sunday - please use this as a opportunity to remind your friends and family to drive safe and be cautious in weather conditions. Also, perform a vehicle safety check, looking especially at the treading on your tires. ...
